Treatment
Conservative (3)
- Rest, ice, analgesics, and a series of perineural injections of corticosteroid to help reduce neural inflammation.
- Activity Reduction
- Exercises
o scapular pivot strengthening,
o scapulohumeral coordination
o Rotator cuff strengthening/ endurance
o deltoid strengthening / endurance
Surgical Options (1)
- Surgical intervention is warranted when there is no improvement after 6 months of conservative care or in cases with clear evidence of a compressive lesion at the suprascapular or spinoglenoid notch (i.e., ganglion cyst).
o Neurolysis
o Cyst removal
o Excision of the transverse scapular ligament is indicated if symptoms persist.
